The former primary school in Blofield, near Norwich, is to be put up for auction this month with a guide price of £275,000.
Norfolk County Council has instructed BTG Eddisons Property Auctions to sell the North Street property, which first opened as a school in 1878. The site closed last year when a new 420-place school was opened nearby to cope with the expansion of the village.
Now the 13,000 sq ft school building, which stands on a one-acre site, will feature in a 24-houronline auction, which opens on 28 May and closes the following day.
Last month, BTG Eddisons Property Auctions was also instructed to sell the former Woodside Primary School site in Hethersett, which had been vacant since staff and students moved to new premises in 2020. The former primary school went under the hammer with a £275,000 guide price and was sold for £558,000.
Christopher Theocharides, senior commercial surveyor at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: “We are pleased to have been instructed by Norfolk Council to bring this former school to auction and support the disposal of assets that are surplus to requirements.
“By selling vacant sites such as this, councils can unlock significant capital receipts which can then be reinvested into frontline services and other local priorities.”
He added: “Blofield is a highly desirable place to live as a thriving village community with excellent access to Norwich and the Norfolk Broads. Demand for property in well-connected locations like this remains really strong, so we expect there to be good interest from a range of buyers.”
The former Blofield Primary School will be up for sale in BTG Eddisons Property Auctions’ online timed auction, which opens on 28 May and closes on 29 May. For more details and bidding information, click here.
