The former public toilets on Park Green in Macclesfield town centre are to go up for auction this month with a guide price of £40,000 - £50,000.

BTG Eddisons Property Auctions has been instructed to sell the 2,400 q ft, stone-built, single-storey building, which will feature in the firm’s upcoming multi-lot timed auction, with bidding opening on 26 May and closing the following day.

The toilets closed in 2023 when they were replaced by a new facility in Macclesfield’s indoor market. According to auctioneers, there are a range of potential new uses for the building, subject to planning consent.

Edward Feather, director and auctioneer at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions said: “Former public conveniences often prove to be popular lots at auction because they offer a low-cost entry point into property development. That’s especially true when the building is located in a prime, high-footfall spot such as this.”

He added: “Macclesfield is a visitor destination and gateway to the Peak District. It’s well known for its quirky cobbled streets filled with independent shops, its monthly artisan Treacle Market, and its direct rail links that put the town just 20 minutes from Manchester and under two hours from London.

“We’ve seen some brilliantly creative developments from former public toilet buildings, including modern micro-offices, coffee bars, boutique flower shops, and pint-sized art galleries, and this property could be a really unique investment opportunity in its own right.”
