A well-known Grade II listed former bank in the heart of Burslem is set to go under the hammer this month with a guide price of £160,000.

The former NatWest bank building at Fountain Place will appear in the next live stream auction to be held by BTG Eddisons Property Auctions on 28 May.

The 7,300 sq ft building dates back to the 1870s and sits within the Burslem conservation area. It has been vacant since closing as a bank almost a decade ago.

A 2024 application to convert the property into seven apartments was refused, although planners concluded that the principle of residential conversion was acceptable and would make a “positive contribution to the vitality of the town centre”.

Christopher Theocharides, senior commercial surveyor from BTG Eddisons Property Auctions said: “It makes complete sense for a building of this scale and prominence in the centre of Burslem to be brought back into active use. The property offers clear potential for residential or alternative redevelopment, subject to the necessary consents, in an area where there is ongoing interest in restoring historic town centre buildings.”

He added: “Burslem continues to see investment in its heritage properties, including the market hall, the Wedgwood Institute and the School of Art, and opportunities like this don’t often come to market.”

The building lies within the Burslem conservation area, in an area undergoing wider regeneration activity across Stoke-on-Trent’s historic town centres.

BTG Eddisons Property Auctions is a national auction business formed through the unification of regional brands including Pugh, SDL Property Auctions, Mark Jenkinson and Network Auctions. It now hosts a three-day national auction event every month.
