A historic Methodist chapel in Chellaston near Derby is to be offered for sale by auction later this month, with a guide price of £135,000.
The brick-built chapel, which dates back to 1875, will feature in the next live stream auction to be held by BTG Eddisons Property Auctions on 26 February.
BTG Eddisons Property Auctions is the new name for regional auction businesses Pugh, SDL Property Auctions and Mark Jenkinson, which have come together to operate as a single national brand.
Set within landscaped grounds in the centre of Chellaston, next to the Lawns Hotel, the former chapel was built during a period of population growth driven by the village’s thriving alabaster mining industry.
The world-famous Chellaston alabaster was widely used for monuments, tombs and church tablets, with production continuing from medieval times until the 20th century.
The property occupies a prominent position within a well-established residential area that is popular with commuters to Derby and the wider East Midlands, with major employers including Rolls-Royce’s Sinfin campus located nearby.
Andrew Parker, partner and auctioneer at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: “Chellaston is a well-appointed and peaceful residential neighbourhood that continues to attract strong demand, particularly from people working in central Derby and nearby employment hubs.
“Changing times mean that this historic building is no longer required as a place of worship but, subject to the necessary planning consents, redevelopment for an alternative use such as residential accommodation could offer a positive way to repurpose a landmark building in the heart of the village.”
